The "Grand Secretariat Archives" held in the Institute of History and Philology. Academia Sinica was collected by the institute through several change of hands since the early Republican era. The "Grand Secretariat Archives" refers to those documents originally stored in the storerooms of the Grand Secretariat of the Qing dynasty and were later on passed to and preserved in the Institute of History and Philology. The total amount of our collection is about 310,000 items. The collection dated as far as Ming dynasty to the late Qing dynasty, dealing with a great variety of subjects. Serious researchers on the Ming-Qing studies should not miss this wonderful collection. Please refer to "Grand Secretariat Archives-History of Preservation and Inventory" for a more detailed orientation regarding its contents ,how it came to our possession, as well as the efforts that have been devoted to its preservation and inventory. The Ming-Qing Archives Project was launched in 1981.Much of its early work focused on the conservation and cataloging. The Project started digitizing the archival materials in 1996. Metadata has been built for each document in order to provide file description and searchable key words. Documents were also scanned and stored digitally using the latest technology. Although this project is still ongoing, the database has been opened since March 2001 to serve public interest. General public is welcome to browse through the table of contents for free, or search the complete data bank after registration. Welcome to visit our site, and your comments are always appreciated.
