水茄苳又稱「穗花棋盤腳」，花朵在夜間開放，清晨即掉落。長長下垂的穗狀花序，爆出一束一束的花蕊，像是夜空中綻放的煙火，卻又更為持久。夏日的夜晚，來到台灣北部或南部的海岸，別忘了欣賞水茄苳為您演出的煙花秀！ Small tree. Leaves oblong-obovate. Racemes (of spike) terminal or in axils of fallen leaves; calyx 2-4-lobed, petals green or pale rose-colored; filaments red, yellow-white-tipped. Fruit ovate-oblong. Distributed in Tropical Old World. In Taiwan, scattered trees in coastal regions of northern and southern parts of the island.
