楝，又名「苦楝」，諧音「苦戀」，可能令人覺得寓意不吉；但亦有人以其別稱「苦苓」為筆名，或許是欣賞其耐旱、耐鹽，生存力強的特性，又或者喜歡它優良的木材？楝又名「金鈴子」，當是指其黃色的果實而言；因為經過烘乾的關係，在標本上已看不出果實的原色，但整體來看，仍流露出一種優雅的風情。 A medium-size tree. Leaves bipinnate, chartaceous, ovate-oblong. Panicles axillary, flowers lilac, petals 5, spathulate-oblong, staminal tube dark purple. Fruit ovoid, fleshy with a hard stone. Distributed in Central China, Korea, to Japan. In Taiwan, very common in lowlands throughout the island.
