烏心石和我們所熟知的含笑、玉蘭花一樣，是木蘭科的植物，花朵較玉蘭花嬌小，花香也較為清淡宜人，每年初春，您到台灣中低海拔的森林中，別忘了打開您的嗅覺，聞聞是否有烏心石花的芬芳喔！ Evergreen tree, to 20 m or more high, 1 m in diameter. Leaves coriaceous, oblong. Flowers axillary; perianth lobes 9-12, pale yellow, with a red-purple center, oblanceolate. Fruiting carpels well-spaced or partly congested on an elongated torus. Distributed from southern Japan to Taiwan; in broadleaved forests from low to medium altitudes throughout the island. A rather valuable timber tree in Taiwan, the wood is used for building, furniture-making and other purposes.
